From Channelnewsasia.com (13 Sept 2007):
SINGAPORE : Employers of foreign maids, who have a disabled family member, can now apply for the foreign domestic worker levy concession from September 15.
… Those who wish to apply for the levy concession need to get a medical assessment on the disabled family member.

Can you please tell me my niece can apply for a maid levy concession as the maid is looking after her mother (my sister) who is wheelchair bound.
Thanks.

Hi Helen, I’ve directed your enquiry to the librarians at the Public Library Services (www.pl.sg). Cheers.

My father lives with my brother but is financially supported by me. I will be looking at getting a maid and wonder how I can claim/apply for the levy or apply for PWD as he prefers to stay with my brother. I claimed for his tax relief (after clarification with IRAS).
Thank you.

Hi Pamela, do you mean apply for waiver of the levy? At the MOM website (www.mom.gov.sg) there is a part on “Hiring Foreign Domestic Workers”. I skimmed though the sections. Didn’t find information about PWDs or waivers. So I checked their FAQ and in the FAQ search I typed in “waiver maid levy”. It brought me to this article where it lists 5 situations where a waiver may be granted. It doesn’t indicate the hiring for a PWD as a valid situation. However, it doesn’t hurt to write in to MOM to enquire or seek for a waiver. Maybe they would grant you one on a case-by-case basis.
