The “Deaf-initely No Excuses” Run (26 Aug 2007)
OK, so my excuse was Durban, South Africa. Was only back on Sunday morning, 26 Aug. Anyway, whether you run or not is your choice. The video is an excellent attempt in raising awareness about the deaf. Very nicely done. From the 3-minute mark onwards, the video makes a case for the employment of the deaf.
Great that they have put up something like this in YouTube.
Thanks for Alvan for alerting us to this. More details from his email:
This is probably Singapore’s first ever sign language video made for a publicity announcement (besides the one on SIA planes). It’s scripted, shot, edited, acted entirely by volunteers.
Thanks to our budding actors for appearing in this video. (All of them are deaf, by the way.)
It’s good publicity for the deaf community as a whole, and also for the general public to learn more about this issue (what issue.. watch it and find out!).
Although we use sign language in the video, some of the stars voice, and there are - ta-dah! - subtitles too. (After doing it for for the
video, I’ve now gained a kind of appreciation for those poor saps doing subtitling/captioning work - the syncing is supremely tedious!)Beside those mentioned in the credits at the end of the video, credit also goes to all those who helped out. No more faceless backstage crew policy! I’m the equal limelight opportunity type.
Thanks to Evelyn for the transcription and for the errors which I had to correct in the midst of editing and syncing. Thanks to Dawn for.. for.. something. I’m not sure what, but she was somehow involved in it, ordering me to do this and that. Thank you, Thomas, for your QT–>AVI advice.

p/s: Toggle the widescreen OFF for best viewing experience - it’s the 2nd control from the right bottom. You should see the video as attached (in its original dimensions, not stretched).
